                 2009-2010 season

During last season we did a lot of reminiscing and re-exploring plays we had previously produced. Our focus for 2009-2010 will be on celebrating one anniversary and looking forward to another. This will be our 10th  season in our space at 34 Market Street, and plans are under way for a Gala celebration next May in conjunction with our new production of Neil Simon’s ridiculously funny “Rumors.”  Keep on the lookout for some major ‘sprucing up’ inside the building and the long awaited new roof on the outside.

We’ll also be ‘celebrating’ with participation in the year long Minds Wide Open: Celebrating Women in the Arts  initiative being sponsored by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginia Tourism Commission. Throughout the season we’ll be featuring talented women of all ages, beginning with our leads in “The Miracle Worker”- seventeen year old Hillary Chesson as Annie Sullivan  and eleven year old Rose Dornan as Helen Keller. In Januray, 2010, “The Women Project” will involve a workshop for women interested in all aspects of theatre, culminating with a weekend of staged reading performances of Clare Booth Luce’s classic, all female comedy, “The Women.” This project was sparked by the many women from every walk of life who have told us they “would really like to be in a play sometime, but….” You all know who you are and we expect to see you all here in January!  With 35 different characters, there’s certainly room for everyone. Finally, in  July, 2010, what better way to “top off” a season focusing on women artists than with a production of “Beehive,” celebrating the great girl singers and groups of the 60’s- from Tina Turner and Connie Francis to Janis Joplin and the Supremes.

And when all that is said and done, we’ll be looking forward to our 25th anniversary of producing live theatre on the Eastern Shore, in 2011. Indeed, the best is yet to come. We look forward to having you join us in the celebration!
